Summer is the perfect time to discover the Ribera del Duero Wine Route and its villages. Not only because at this time of year you’ll be able to enjoy the best temperatures, but also because the activities multiply during the summer season.

We tell you 10 activities that are a must during the coming months and that you should take into account when visiting us.

1. Solidarity tasting in Roa de Duero

At the end of June, the Ribera Solidarity Network organises a Solidarity Tasting, the proceeds of which will be used to support different associations that work for various causes. This year, the fourth edition will be held and a total of 42 wineries, including several belonging to the Ribera del Duero Wine Route, will be available for visits.

2. Lavanda Fest in Caleruega

In Caleruega they are going to celebrate the lavender blossom with a festival combining music, nature and heritage. In a unique setting, you can enjoy several concerts, including Siloé and Soleá Morente.

In addition, the Lavanda fest will have the collaboration of the Oxígeno Foundation, which will offer free environmental talks and workshops.

3. Peñaranda Folk and Night of Candles in Peñaranda de Duero

In the unique setting of Peñaranda de Duero, the central days of summer are filled with a multitude of activities.

The first one we are going to talk about is the Perañaranda Folk, a festival of traditional Castilian music that has already been held several times and that every year brings together different singing and dancing groups in the Plaza Mayor. In addition, this year there will be the celebration of the Cata Popular Cantacatavino, an event that this time will be held in the town’s castle.

A few days later, at the beginning of August, the people of Peñarandinos prepare to turn their town into a fairytale postcard during the Noche de Velas (Night of Candles). This is the perfect time to visit the entire Historic-Artistic Ensemble accompanied by performances of all kinds.

4. Sonorama Ribera in Aranda de Duero

One of the best festivals in Spain is held on the Ribera del Duero Wine Route. We are talking about Sonorama Ribera, a unique event that turns Aranda de Duero into the capital of music during the middle of August.

Big names from the national and international scene are present in the line-up of this event which is now dangerously close to 30 editions and which, among other things, has its own mini children’s festival, sponsored by the Ribera del Duero Wine Route.

5. Roman Festival of Bacchus in Baños de Valdearados

If you want to experience a unique festival with the flavour of ancient Rome, we invite you to get to know this event. It is held at the end of August in the Burgos town of Baños de Valdearados and was created with the aim of adding value to the archaeological site in the municipality.

Since 2020 it has been a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest and those attending can enjoy an atmosphere that takes us back to the past thanks to all the details prepared by the members of the “Dios Baco” Cultural Association.

6. Medieval Market of San Esteban de Gormaz

The streets of San Esteban de Gormaz are the best setting for a visit to the Middle Ages. Once again at the end of August we find ourselves with a journey into the past. With this already well-known Medieval Market, visitors will enjoy travelling music and theatre shows, fire performances and even the presence of mythological animals. Exhibitions, displays of ancient crafts, falconry and horseback tournaments complete this special weekend in the town of Soria.

7. El Cotarro Swing Festival

In Moradillo El Cotarro has Swing. Since the beginning of this journey in which they have recovered the space in which their traditional wine cellars and wine presses are located, the inhabitants of this small municipality in Burgos have worked to create a wide range of activities that are spread throughout the year.

In August, those who come to Moradillo de Roa can enjoy the Cotarro Swing Festival, an event that combines the best of this type of music with the best of wine and wine tourism.

8. Great Grape Harvest Festival in Aranda de Duero

To celebrate the grape harvest as it deserves, the Regulatory Council of the Designation of Origin created the Gran Fiesta de la Vendimia a few years ago. Aranda de Duero is full of wine, music and tradition during these days.

9. Ribera Run Experience in Peñafiel

If what you want is a sporting event, Ribera Run Experience is your event. Wine tourism in one of the most special areas of the Ribera del Duero Wine Route and in a very original way, with a race.

The event, which takes place in September, highlights the natural wealth of the area through routes that pass along the Duero River Path (GR14) and the vineyards of some of the main wineries of the Ribera del Duero Designation of Origin. Its route includes the historical heritage, passing through villages and monuments of great value, such as the Castle of Peñafiel, the Archaeological Site of Pintia in Padilla de Duero, the Plaza del Coso in Peñafiel and the squares of Pesquera de Duero and Curiel de Duero.

It has three classic distances of 30, 17 and 7 kilometres and a parallel programme with guided visits to the wineries, tastings, live music and children’s activities throughout the weekend.

10. Peñafiel Grape Harvest Festival

In Peñafiel the grape harvest is experienced in a very special way and there have been many editions in which it has been celebrated with one of the most special events in the area. It is a festival with a long tradition and over the years has remained one of the main attractions of the year.

The Peñafiel Grape Harvest Festival seeks to combine the best of tradition and innovation. It also has its classic Grape Harvest Parade, the Grape Stomping and the Tasting of the First Must and a weekend full of unique and exciting activities.
