Since the world celebrates Wine Tourism Day on the second Sunday in November, this month has become increasingly important in terms of activities and events related to tourism and wine.
The Ribera del Duero Wine Route is attractive all year round, but we have selected 10 reasons to visit it during the Wine Tourism Month.
1. Landscape of reds and ochres
Autumn is a spectacular time to enjoy vineyard landscapes, with a wide range of ochres, yellows, oranges and reds that reach their peak in these weeks of November. A natural beauty that will remain forever imprinted on our retinas (and photos).
2. An underground world
This is another of the singularities of the Ribera del Duero Wine Route: exploring the galleries that were excavated centuries ago by hand in the subsoil of many towns along the Route, where the wine is kept at a low temperature, in the dark and in silence.
3. Festivals and events
“Por San Andrés, el vino nuevo viejo es”, is a very popular saying in our land, related to wine. November 30 is dedicated to this saint and on that day many villages celebrate their festivities. But the agenda also includes many other activities and events: themed guided tours, tastings, wine tastings…
4. Mushrooms and other seasonal gastronomy
In Ribera del Duero, November is still mushroom picking month. There are oyster mushrooms, milk caps, milk caps, mushrooms… As well as foraging for them, many restaurants along the Route offer mycological menus throughout the autumn. Along with the exquisite suckling lamb, Castilian soup… And this is just to whet your appetite.
5. Accommodation to suit all tastes
Rural cottages, hotels in wineries, accommodation with thermal waters or spas… On the Ribera del Duero Wine Route there is a wide variety of charming accommodation for couples, friends or families. Children are welcome.
6. Relax
How peaceful it is here! This is one of the most common exclamations of those who visit us. A landscape and people to enjoy without haste.
7. Towers and castles
In November, with the change in the colours of the landscapes and the light in the atmosphere, the towers and castles that mark out our territory take on greater prominence, a heritage that speaks of more conflictive times but which now invite you to a relaxed visit.
8. Surprising museums
The Ribera del Duero Wine Route is home to the unique Museum of Aromas, the only one of its kind in Spain and Europe, which is also inclusive. Or the Museum of Traditional Games, which offers an extensive exhibition of games and toys from all over the world. Obviously, a wine museum is a must.
9. Traditions
There are many on the Route, but during the Month of Wine Tourism we suggest those related to wine production, especially in the villages that still have wine presses.
10. Wineries and wines
Visiting the Route, and more so during the Month of Wine Tourism, means visiting some of its wineries and discovering the peculiarities of the wines of Ribera del Duero, a wide variety of reds and rosés that will not leave you indifferent.
