When you visit the Ribera del Duero Wine Route you have to be prepared for a multitude of surprises. The wineries that make up our territory offer a very complete range when it comes to wine tourism, but at the same time, many of them have products that go beyond wine and are a perfect complement to make our visit to the Ribera del Duero unforgettable.
We invite you to visit these six wineries and bring with you more than just the experience and the wine.
1. Hotel Raíz y Páramo de Guzmán Winery
To say that “the best cheese in the world” is made on the Ribera del Duero Wine Route is possible thanks to Páramo de Guzmán from Bodegas Raíz, in Roa de Duero. This title was given by the American journalist Michael Paterniti in his best-selling book: The telling room.
If we have to talk about this cheese, we have to talk about the fact that its production process is completely handmade and 100% respectful of the raw material. The end result is a cured cheese with an intense and permanent flavour, which has required a minimum of 12 months of curing.
2. Briego Wineries
Closely associated with its wine tourism project, Bodegas Briego has a plantation of micro-fertilised holm oak trees for truffle cultivation around the winery. In addition to beautifying the surroundings of the winery, these trees are an added bonus to your visits that allow you to go beyond the wine.
Briego is located in Fompedraza, in the province of Valladolid, at an altitude of 910 metres, on the border of the Ribera del Duero.
3. El Lagar de Isilla
El Lagar de Isilla is a winery located in La Vid. It is the perfect place for a weekend getaway to relax and connect with nature. A restaurant, hotel and spa are available for travellers who come here.
However, they also have a curious product that you will definitely want to take with you when you leave. We are talking about their jam, a sweet made from 100% Tempranillo wine from the winery itself. This sweet is ideal for combining with cheese, foie gras, meat, chocolate and fruit.
4. Matasnos Forest
Always in line with sustainability, Bosque de Matasnos works to be in harmony with its environment. Among its projects to improve the environment, we find its honey.
This is an extraordinary environmental recovery project. By avoiding the use of herbicides and pesticides, they have allowed the fauna and biodiversity to regenerate naturally. The bees, with their expanding swarms and growing apiaries, are the best certificate of the environmental quality derived from their work. The honey they produce is analysed by the CSIC La Grajera, which proves that it is 100% free of pesticides and herbicides.
5. Matarromera Wineries
In the case of Matarromera, there are many products that go beyond wine. This winery offers its visitors a range of extra virgin olive oils, with olives harvested in the provinces of Valladolid and Zamora, which capture the essence of the terroir.
In the same way, Matarromera has ventured into the world of cosmetics with its Esdor line, which uses the antioxidant benefits of grape polyphenols.
6. Torremilanos Estate
In addition to wine and cava, Finca Torremilanos has ventured into the world of natural cosmetics. Taking advantage of the benefits of its organic vineyards, the estate has developed a line of products dedicated to personal care.
These cosmetics are made from natural ingredients such as grape polyphenols and offer powerful antioxidant and revitalising properties. Moisturising creams, serums, special treatments…
