Bocigas de Perales
Bocigas de Perales
About
A small riverside village located on the right bank of the Duero and close to the lands of Burgos (under whose jurisdiction it once was, now in the municipality of Langa de Duero in the province of Soria).
Bocigas de Perales is grouped in a valley surrounded by an original geological phenomenon: the “Karstic rocky outcrops”. Erosion has sculpted whimsical shapes in reddish tones, forming several groups of rocks among which the place known as the “Camarilla de los Moros” stands out, a sort of cave with a door cut in the stone through which (according to legend) one descends to the river Perales.
The river Perales (a tributary of the Arandilla), is situated about one kilometre north of the village. And above its hamlet rises the wide stone belfry that indicates the location of the Parish church dedicated to San Pedro Apóstol, a Romanesque church (last third of the 12th century), with alterations and additions, among which the doorway and the semicircular chancel stand out as original elements. There is also the hermitage of the Virgen del Vadillo and the hermitage of San Isidoro, located in “los altos”, where people go up to bless the vines on the 4th of April.
The patron saint festivities are held in honour of its patron saint, San Pedro Apóstol (June), and its patron saint, the Virgen del Vadillo (October). They also commemorate San Sebastián, La Cruz and San Roque.
Bocigas de Perales is known by the local name: bocigueños . Its inhabitants were nicknamed “atravesaos” because they wanted to put a banner through the “atravesao” door.
