Church of San Miguel de Reoyo
Peñafiel
About
The parish church of San Miguel is one of the most emblematic in Peñafiel.
Its architecture is sober and elegant, as befits the end of the Renaissance, at the end of the 16th century, although it has Romanesque remains from the 12th century, attached to the Gospel side.
Inside, there are three divided naves, with pillars and semicircular arches supporting vaults decorated with diamond-pointed plasterwork. The transept is covered with a dome supported by pendentives. On the Gospel side and at the foot of the church is the chevet of an old Romanesque church from the end of the 12th century, with remains of Gothic painting from the end of the 14th century. It houses important Baroque altarpieces, dedicated to the tears of San Pedro, San Roque, the main altarpiece to San Miguel, San Francisco de Borja, Santa Teresa de Jesús, the main altarpiece of San Salvador de los Escapulados, the Nazarene or that of Carmen, as well as the Calvary.
