About

Built in the second half of the 12th century, it is a beautiful example of rural Romanesque architecture. It has a single nave and harmonious construction.

An apse with Lombard arches, very rare in Castile, takes the light of dawn. Façade with tiled roof, historiated capitals and geometrically decorated archivolt.

On the capitals, a serpent extends as a symbol of evil while two lions guard the tree of life. The interior, with its transverse arches and barrel vault, is striking for its architectural perfection and aesthetic harmony. The slenderness and balance of the bare stones.

Two large capitals house a curious fauna of figures: centaurs with arrows, double-tailed mermaids and enigmatic soldiers. Strength and temptation, brutality and an invitation to lust.

Mermaids and centaurs symbolise the basic drives of human nature.
