Church of the Asunción de Nuestra Señora
Anguix
About
The interior is decorated with baroque altars. It dates from the 18th century. The church was able to endow the parish buildings with an emblematic charge, turning them into the image that best identified a town. For this reason, the faithful collaborated devotionally in all the undertakings and felt identified with the actions carried out. This makes us understand how ambitions were realised that exceeded the economic possibilities of the town, as was the case in the construction of the churches of Anguix and La Horra.
The construction of the parish church involved large sums of money, the payment of which mortgaged the town’s assets and obliged the inhabitants to contribute with their work and generous donations. Collaboration in parish building projects was usually rewarded by the ecclesiastical authorities with a certain number of days of indulgence.
