El Carrascal Railway Bridge
Bocos de Duero
About
It is located at km 62.981 of the Valladolid-Ariza railway line (currently in disuse, as mentioned above), on the border between the municipalities of Peñafiel and Bocos de Duero.
Known as the El Carrascal bridge, it is, like all the bridges that cross the Duero on the Valladolid – Ariza line, a metal bridge with Pratt-type rounded beams (the two beams that support the bridge are joined at the top to form a kind of gallery), with four additional diagonals in the central modules, 61 metres of span in a single span and 6 metres in height from deck to upper chord. However, it has a special feature, as it is the only metal bridge on this line that is skewed, given the lack of space to adapt the track platform to the curves of the Duero River in this spot. The next bridge on the line is El Empecinado (also in the municipality of Bocos) and is identical in design but orthogonal to the Duero.
This bridge is easily seen from the N-122 road and is relatively easy to access, following the track of the railway tracks on foot, taking the turn-off from the N-122 corresponding to these coordinates: 41.61012, -4.079323.
Be very careful because crossing the bridge is very dangerous due to its height, its condition and the wind that blows over it.
