El Empecinado Railway Bridge
Bocos de Duero
About
It is located at km 65.594 of the Valladolid-Ariza railway line (currently in disuse, as mentioned above), in the municipality of Bocos de Duero, whose station-landing was the only one on the right bank of the river, so that the orographic circumstances of the route made it necessary to build two bridges, but it had the advantage of collecting the transport flows of the entire northern area of this part of the province of Valladolid.
Known as the bridge of El Empecinado, this bridge avoids road crossings and crossings of the river Duero that are too oblique, and runs very close to the bridge of El Carrascal, which means that one may have been made orthogonal (El Empecinado) at the cost of the other (El Carrascal) being diverted, since the small separation between them does not allow the layout to absorb enough curvature to attack the river in a perpendicular position.
Contemplating this singular steel structure and walking on it is an emotional experience, as it is a work of engineering that deserves to be highlighted in order to remove it from oblivion and indifference.
Access on foot (avoiding crops) on the right bank is easy, following the Senda del Duero at the following coordinates: 41.609048, -4.034717
At the moment it is passable, although on the left bank, as can be seen in the photos, abundant vegetation has grown at the entrance to the bridge, making it difficult to see and access the bridge. Be careful because crossing the bridge is dangerous due to its height and condition.
