Fuentelcésped
About
In the heart of the Ribera del Duero region, 10 kilometres from Aranda, this town in Burgos welcomes visitors with its wineries, monuments, traditions and customs.
In the main square of the village we find the parish church of San Miguel Arcángel. In addition to this church, the town is also home to the Nuestra Señora de Nava hermitage (early 18th century), the Fuente Grande fountain, the Lavadero (washing place) and the Town Hall.
This municipality is on the way to the Hoces del Río Riaza Nature Reserve and on the way to the Linares Reservoir. It is also the location of the La Dehesa Audio-guided Interpretative Trail, along which you can see the birds that feed on water in the “Navas de la Dehesa Wetlands”.
Fuentelcésped celebrates its patron saint fiestas in mid-June in honour of the Virgen de Nava. Typical of Fuentelcésped is the Romería de los Danzantes, in which eight children dressed in funny costumes and topped with cheerful flower hats, dance to the Virgen de la Nava, in the festivities of her “traida” (with the offering of the bouquet of doughnuts included) and her “llevada” from the hermitage to the village church. And, in September, San Miguel Arcángel, bidding farewell to the summer.
The people of Fuentelcésped: fuentelcespenses, although they are also known locally by the nickname of “gallegos”.
