La Barca Beach
Quintanilla de Arriba
About
A haven of peace and tranquillity under the poplars on the banks of the Duero. Called “La Barca”, this area has been fitted out by the Town Council of Quintanilla de Arriba with services such as a shower, drinking water, tables with benches, a slide, a wooden walkway and jetties. The sand is replenished every summer and the area has been declared suitable for bathing (dated 2021) by the census of the Junta de Castilla y León, and its waters are analysed weekly. Buoys delimit the bathing area and access from the shore to the water is easy, as the depth is gradually increasing. This area has been reforested and is located right on the path of the “Senda del Duero GR-14” as it passes through this town in Valladolid, which allows easy access for neighbours from nearby towns such as Pesquera or Peñafiel.
Its name comes from the existence of a boat that used to cross from one bank of the river to the other (on the other side is the estate of the Dehesa de los Canónigos winery, in Pesquera). The boat crossing was done by holding on to a rope, a rope that the older neighbours remember well, as they also used it to support themselves when learning to swim.
During San Masín (the local fiestas), this area of the Duero river is also used to hold a canoeing competition.
IMPORTANT:
This river beach that we present to you is declared as suitable for bathing by the census of the Junta de Castilla y León (dated 2021).
