About

Before the Muslims ruled the Duero area, the lands of what we know today as La Sequera were already populated, even if only by hermits (there are several caves in the area of El Prado) and a monastic community settled in the Hermitage of San Nicolás, the ruins of which are still preserved.

In the 10th century, the conquest by the Castilian kings of the town of Aza from the Arabs, located on the southern line of the Duero, marked the birth of the Comunidad de Villa y Tierra de Aza, which included the town of La Sequera.

Dedicated for centuries to agriculture and livestock farming, the people of La Sequera, who have seen how the exodus from the countryside to the city in the 60s and 70s of the 20th century decimated their population, are trying in this 21st century to find new ways of progress and prosperity, without abandoning their roots.

Less than 19 kilometres from Aranda de Duero, this town offers travellers on the Route these places of interest:

  • Nuestra Señora de la Asunción parish church.
  • The necropolis of San Nicolás: several excavations are being carried out at this site, with findings such as ossuaries, a smelting furnace and numerous medieval remains.
  • The fountain and washing place.
  • The ethnographic museum.
  • Fountains of Hontanguillas.
  • The Morales (Moral trees catalogued as singular in the province).
  • The Roble Quejigo de la Sequera de Haza, one of the trees that we have catalogued as singular.
  • The moor of Corcos and the Ricot’s lark.
  • The wine cellars: La Sequera de Haza has a very large area of underground wine cellars, located in four different areas of the village, including more than 70 underground cellars and wine presses. Although most of them are in a state of ruin, magnificent examples of popular architecture can still be seen.

La Sequera de Haza celebrates its fiestas in honour of Our Lady of the Assumption (15 August) and the Virgin of the Rosary (October).

Locals of La Sequera de Haza: sequeranos.
