Padilla de Duero
About
Padilla de Duero is a riverside town that has belonged to the municipality of Peñafiel since the mid 1970s.
It is the site of the ancient Vaccean city of Pintia (6th century BC), which was defended by a moat and wall. It is one of the most important archaeological complexes in the Castile-León region. You can visit this Archaeological Zone and learn about the history and way of life according to the discoveries made at the Pintia Archaeological Site, which are also recreated in the Pintia Archaeological Classroom (Peñafiel).
Near the town centre you can enjoy bird watching thanks to the “Lagunas de Padilla”, which are located at the foot of a large pine forest: a perfect natural environment for hiking.
It also has the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, a stone building built in the 16th century, with alterations in the 18th century. The stone tower, at the head of the church, has a single body.
The festivities in Padilla de Duero are held in honour of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción at the beginning of August.
The people of Padilla de Duero are known as ” padillanos”.
