About

Our story begins in Pedrosa de Duero, in the heart of the Ribera del Duero in Burgos, right in the place where the village chaplains cultivated a vineyard in the Middle Ages. Over time, one of those vineyards passed into the hands of our family and in the 20th century we find Doroteo Rodero working the vineyard, helped by his son Paco.

With the aim of continuing the legacy received, Paco Rodero and his wife Conchita Villa recovered the family vineyard and expanded it with nearby plots of old vines. In 1996, after almost two decades dedicated to viticulture, the Rodero Villa couple founded the Pago de los Capellanes winery, with the hope of maintaining the connection with the land and traditional knowledge.

Today, with Estefanía Rodero Villa at the helm, we work to preserve the land and care for a history made up of landscape, tradition and a deep respect for the nature of the vineyard. Our wines reflect this commitment and do so with balance and finesse, extolling the value and identity of the different vineyard sites that we cultivate in Pedrosa and other villages in La Ribera.

In 2014, we realised our desire to make white wines with the same philosophy as Pago de los Capellanes: expressive, deep, intense and with the ability to age for a long time. These virtues awaited us in Galicia, in the small and traditional area of Valdeorras, a mystical territory of granite and slate that preserves the unique virtues of the old Godello vines in their purest and most authentic expression. This is how O Luar do Sil, the family’s second winery, was born.

Our most recent project takes us to the southernmost highlands of Ribera del Duero. On the slopes of Fuentenebro, Pardilla and Honrubia we tend historic vines at an altitude of over 1,000 metres. The red soils with a marked mineral character, together with the special climatic and environmental conditions of these borderline sites, offer a fresh, lively and subtle identity. The result is Un Sueño en las Alturas, a wine that completes the Pago de los Capellanes family, bringing a singular energy, daughter of the mountain, the junipers, the sky and the viticulture of always.
