Parish Church of the Asunción de Nuestra Señora
Olmedillo de Roa
About
This building was built with the spatial monumentality typical of the 16th and early 17th centuries by the stonemason Juan de Navaceda. It is a building with three naves, stone walls and regular ashlar masonry. It has a chancel with Gothic windows, an interior with plasterwork on the ceilings of the naves, a star-shaped vault in the false transept, large pilasters that provide slenderness and two Gothic arches. It has a large hall with twelve vaulted bays resting on pillars with a polygonal base and circular section in the elevation, with a false brick vault ceiling decorated with plasterwork – except for the fourth bay, which is vaulted with reticulated and cambered ribbing.
Inside it houses an altarpiece of Our Lady of Basardilla, from the mid-17th century with the image of the Virgin of Basardilla, which was formerly located in the village chapel. There is also an 18th century receptacle by Manuel Sandoval and a 19th century tabernacle by Pedro Munar.
