Pedrosa de Duero
About
Pedrosa de Duero is the name of a town and municipality in the judicial district of Aranda. It is 85 km from the capital and is located 30 minutes from Aranda and just 7 minutes from Roa de Duero.
The origin of Pedrosa dates back to 1143, when Alfonso VII gave a privilege to the settlers of the town of Roa, donating this town and the hamlets of its alfoz, among which was, according to the text of the Fuero, “Petrosiella“.
In Pedrosa de Duero, the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción stands out, with an almost Baroque interior for the most part.
The municipality of Pedrosa de Duero, in addition to the village of the same name, is made up of four other smaller local entities: Boada de Roa, Guzmán, Quintanamanvirgo and Valcavado de Roa. In 1726, the inhabitants of Pedrosa de Duero proposed their municipal autonomy through the manorial route. The Path in search of the Origins runs through these first three towns and between Pedrosa and Valcavado de Roa the Path between Aire and Remanso runs.
Two of the wineries in Pedrosa de Duero can boast of being among the forerunners of the Ribera del Duero Designation of Origin in 1982.
The patron saint fiestas of Pedrosa de Duero are held in honour of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción and San Roque (15 and 16 August) with the traditional “Danza de la Culebra”. The week before, the Semana Cultural (Cultural Week) is organised, with tastings and sweets competitions. There is also a special celebration on Easter Sunday.
Pedrosa de Duero’s local name: pedroseños.
