Peñaranda Castle
Peñaranda de Duero
About
The Castle of Peñaranda de Duero is a great fortress that clearly dominates the village, although the first defences of Peñaranda may have been erected at the same time as it was repopulated. Written records of the castle date back to 1100, but it was not until the 16th century that the Zúñiga family gave it its current appearance.
Inside the castle, the visitor will find the Torre del Homenaje (Homage Tower), an interpretation centre of the frontier castles, and from its viewpoint, one of the most beautiful villages on the banks of the Duero River can be contemplated.
Peñaranda Castle is part of the so-called “Route of the Castles of the Ribera del Duero”, a journey through the culture and history of our region.
