About

44 kilometres from Valladolid, this riverside municipality located on a meander on the right bank of the Duero River, lives and breathes by a fundamental element of this part of the valley: wine, which can be seen and felt in the different wineries that cohabit the area, as well as in the wineries and picnic areas of the neighbours located on the hill.

Pesquera de Duero offers prehistoric remains along with emblematic architecture such as its houses with noble coats of arms or religious buildings such as the church of San Juan Bautista, from the 16th century, made of stone and with a single nave. This church is the point and end of a great scenery that begins with the 17th century entrance arch next to the main road, followed by a marvellous arcaded Plaza Mayor with lintels where the Town Hall is located.

Pesquera de Duero also has two hermitages:

  • The hermitage of Cristo del Humilladero, from the 17th century with a nave with a dome and with a relief of the Descent from the Cross on the façade, is located just at the crossroads of the road that goes to Valbuena.
  • The hermitage of the Virgen de Rubialejos, from the 18th century in Baroque style, made of stone and masonry. It is almost 2 kilometres away and runs between crosses that make up a fabulous Way of the Cross.

On the left bank of the Duero, Pesquera shares with the municipality of Padilla de Duero, the great archaeological complex of Pintia, declared an archaeological site in 1993, being one of the most important of Castilla y León.

Pesquera de Duero is also the site of one of the stages of the Senda del Duero GR14. After enjoying the pine forest of San Pablo, this Valladolid town welcomes hikers with a walkway of modern design but very well integrated into the landscape, which invites us to enter this town with a great wine-growing tradition.

Between Pesquera de Duero and Curiel are the “Cuevas de las Pinzas”.

Pesquera de Duero celebrates its festivities for San Juan Bautista (24 June) and its patron saint is the Virgen de Rubialejos (8 September).

Pesquera de Duero’s local name: pesqueranos.
