About
The first documented reference to Quintana del Pidio dates back to 1037.
At the end of the 11th century, Quintana was a perfectly organised town with more than a century and a half of history behind it. It is believed that the town of Quintana was born as a consequence of the great march of the counts of Castile to the border of the Duero.
This entire area on the right bank of the Duero River was offered with its width, land, water and forests to the Castilian settlers who divided it up into districts under the supervision of the counts.
The Modern Age was of relative prosperity, which allowed the town to have the beautiful parish church of Santiago Apóstol, with fine altarpieces and imagery, and to maintain the splendour of the Hermitage of Nuestra Señora de los Olmos, outside the town, which has elements dating from between the 15th and 17th centuries. There is also the Chapel of Santa Ana.
Vineyards dot the landscape of the Sendero del Viso, a route with views that will delight walkers visiting Quintana del Pidio.
The town has managed to maintain the structure of its Castilian character along the fundamental lines of local tradition, honesty of life and its transcendence.
Quintana del Pidio celebrates its festivities for the patron saint Santiago Apóstol (25th July) and for the Virgen de los Olmos (from 8th to 10th September).
Quintana del Pidio’s local name: quintanapidienses.
