About

Connected to Olivares de Duero by the Renaissance bridge with seven arches, the old “Quintanilla de Abajo” is the starting point of the Canal del Duero, offering hikers the unique opportunity to walk through a unique natural environment, enjoying the Senda del Duero, the Senda Pico Cuadro – Matacara, as well as its two singular trees: the three-mat holm oak and the tricentenary olive tree. There are also other interesting ornithological and ethnographic routes in El Carrascal, the third largest forest mass in the province of Valladolid.

Quintanilla de Onésimo is the source of the Duero Canal, the most important engineering work of the 19th century in this area, which was built to supply water to the province of Valladolid. It is currently only used for irrigation purposes.

This municipality has a Wine Architecture Park, with traditional constructions related to the vineyard and wine (vineyard guard, underground cellar, farmhouse, well and a small museum).

In terms of cultural heritage, the Mannerist altarpiece in the Church of San Millán is well worth a visit, as is the 17th century Chapel of San Roque. Also of note is the traditional architecture in two types of constructions: the popular and the ancestral or the civil architecture with the old restored washing places, a common meeting place in times when clothes were washed in the pylons.

Quintanilla de Onésimo completes its tourist offer by also forming part of two cultural routes in Valladolid: the Delibes Route and the Infante Don Juan Manuel Route.

The patron saint festivities of this riverside municipality are in honour of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción and San Roque (from 14 to 18 August). In summer (July) Quintanilla de Onésimo is filled with music with the “La Ribera suena a Clásico” (La Ribera sounds like a Classical Festival). In autumn, the Medieval Market and the Grape Harvest Festival (second weekend in October) are held together, currently one of the main tourist attractions of the town. San Millán is also celebrated (12 November).

Quintanilla de Onésimo has a TOURISM OFFICE.

Quintanilla de Onésimo is known as: quintanilleros.
