The Peñafiel Regional Museum of Sacred Art is located inside the church of Santa María (Plaza España), where this museum space shows its visitors a good part of the artistic heritage of religious themes of the whole region.

The Church of Santa María is a succession of styles ranging from Romanesque to Baroque.

The exhibition of processional crosses, a national highlight, is one of the great attractions of this museum, which displays numerous pieces made of silver between the 14th and 17th centuries.

Also on display are the original ordinances given by the Infante Don Juan Manuel to Peñafiel. The great lord of the town was the Infante Don Juan Manuel (1282-1348), nephew of King Alfonso X the Wise. Don Juan Manuel chose Peñafiel as the favourite place of all his estates spread over various parts of the Spanish territory.

Some of the treasures kept in the museum are the Altarpiece of the Souls, Anonymous from the F.Vigarny School, from the 16th century; the Altarpiece of the Virgin, by Juan Ortiz el Viejo, from the 16th century; the Romanesque Virgin, an anonymous sculpture from the 12th century, or the Cross of the Saviour of Peñafiel, by Cristóbal Romero, from the 16th century.
