About

This riverside village was founded during the medieval repopulation as just another village in the surroundings of Aranda de Duero, 16 km away.

There were previous settlements in the area, as can be seen at the current “Pico Romero” site. Located on a hill some 3.5 km from the town centre, archaeological remains from the first stage of the Bronze Age can be found there.

The cross on the peak gives the village its name. The surname contemplated a number of willow trees, although they are not abundant nowadays.

Highlights in Santa Cruz de la Salceda include the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción (from the 17th century), the chapels of Nuestra Señora de Tamarón and Virgen de Gracia, and the Casa del Conde (a large manor house).

It is well worth a walk to the viewpoint of La Cruz, where there is a humilladero built at the beginning of the 17th century. And, of course, a visit to the unique Aroma Museum, the only one of its kind in Europe.

The natural surroundings of Santa Cruz de la Salceda offer the most arid and agricultural character of the region on the Los Valles trail. With views of the Duero river valley and La Calabaza mountain, it also leaves room (of course) for the riverside vineyards.

The patron saint festivities of Santa Cruz de la Salceda are held in honour of the Virgen de Tamarón (July), with the corresponding bringing and carrying to the church.

Locality: Salcedanos, although they are nicknamed “los taragudos“.
