Valdanzo
About
A riverside town with the status of Villa since ancient times, it forms part of the itinerary of El Cid through the lands of Soria, after leaving Castillejo de Robledo through mountains with an abundance of junipers and junipers.
Apart from the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, with Romanesque and Gothic remains, it is in the abandoned hermitage of San Bartolomé, located in the upper part of the village, where a Romanesque doorway with two archivolts and leaf capitals still survives.
The town also has a wide range of fountains scattered throughout the town centre amidst lush vegetation. The area around Valdanzo also already had settlements in Roman times, as evidenced by the archaeological remains of San Pedro de Valdanzo, belonging to a small rural centre from the 2nd-3rd centuries and a stately building from the 4th-5th centuries. Very close to these remains is the “Cueva del Moro (Moorish Cave)”.
Valdanzo celebrates its fiestas in honour of San Isidro (15th May) and San Roque (16th August).
Locals from Valdanzo: Valdanceños, although they are also known as “los tretas”.
