About

The wines of the Ribera del Duero Designation of Origin enter or leave this municipality (depending on how you look at it) through the western part of it following the National Road 122 (A 11), through Velilla de San Esteban, so the name of its wines Camino Soria shows this transient condition that the town has always had.

In this small town, we can still see one of the very few wooden pillories that remain and which is a symbol of the independence and jurisdictional administration – both territorial and human – that it enjoyed many years ago, holding the title of Villa.

In Velilla de San Esteban is the church of the Virgen de la Asunción. There was once a hermitage dedicated to the Virgen de las Nieves.

You cannot miss a stroll along the magnificent right bank of the Duero, one of the best preserved in the province, to admire its varied riverside vegetation, its fertile fertile plain irrigated by the Canal Vizconde de Eza, today wasted on dry crops and, a little further on, the curious geological formations in the form of rocky outcrops.

In Velilla de San Esteban you can also see one of the unique trees of the Ribera del Duero, the Velilla de San Esteban ash tree.

Although there are still wine cellars, the vineyards are planted in San Esteban de Gormaz.

The patron saint fiestas of Velilla de San Esteban are held on the first Saturday in August in honour of the Virgen de las Nieves.

The name of the people of San Esteban: velillenses.
