GR 14 footbridge in Pesquera de Duero
Pesquera de Duero
About
Located in the municipality of Pesquera de Duero, it is one of the largest wooden bridges manufactured in Spain (the largest in its category), with a total length of 106 metres, 3 metres wide, a maximum span of over 50 metres and weighing some 50 tonnes. It is made up of 4 modules built in Asturias and then transported by special vehicles to Pesquera, where they were assembled in a week, fitting perfectly into the landscape and having a reduced visual impact (unlike concrete or steel) without reducing the strength or quality of the bridge. The barrel-shaped bent railings are a nod to one of the main activities that water the Douro: wine production.
As with the Quintanilla de Arriba footbridge, comparisons with a snake are inevitable due to the zigzag that the structure draws over the Duero.
