Currently, the Ribera del Duero Wine Route has a total of 25 museums and Interpretation Centres which show different themes and which represent an important part of the tourists who come to the region. According to the visitors’ report of the Spanish Wine Routes Tourism Observatory, 26% of the people who travelled to the Ribera del Duero in 2022 did so while visiting one of its museums, a fact that highlights the interest that these centres represent in attracting wine tourists to the region.
On 18 May, International Museum Day, the Route offers five plans to help visitors get to know some of the participating spaces better, with activities for everyone.
Peñafiel Castle
This Saturday, to celebrate International Museum Day, Peñafiel Castle (Valladolid) will offer a free night-time visit, by prior reservation, starting at 21:30, during which visitors can enjoy the entire complex, including its recently restored barbican.
The latest interventions carried out on the monument have made it possible to improve its accessibility, allowing visits to different areas of the castle that could not previously be seen, giving the possibility of making a complete tour of the perimeter of the castle.
Museum of Aromas
The Museum of Aromas is located in the town of Santa Cruz de la Salceda in Burgos and is a space designed so that everyone can enjoy their senses. This museum, designed like a house in which you have to go through different rooms discovering the typical smells of each one of them, is unique in Europe and allows for a fun and interactive visit that is perfect for the whole family.
The Night of Ronda in Aranda de Duero
This initiative, which has been held for several years now by the Aranda de Duero Town Council (Burgos), is a unique opportunity to visit several of the town’s museums at extended hours, giving the possibility of visiting them until 11pm on Saturday 18 May.
The Museum of Traditional Games, the Wine Architecture Interpretation Centre (CIAVIN), the Bodega de las Ánimas, the Museum of Sacred Art, the Casa de las Bolas Municipal Museum and the Municipal Museum of Ceramics will open their doors on an evening full of activities in the town.
Monastery of Valbuena
The Monastery of Santa María de Valbuena (Valladolid) has housed the Permanent Headquarters of the Las Edades del Hombre Foundation since 2002, is surrounded by vineyards and shares space with the 5* Hotel Castilla Termal.
The church, the Chapel of San Pedro, the Cloister, the refectory or the Work Room are some of the rooms that can be visited inside this Cistercian monastery, founded in the 12th century.
Casa del Parque de las Hoces del Riaza (Riaza Gorges Park House)
To celebrate International Museum Day, the Casa del Parque de las Hoces del Riaza in Montejo de la Vega (Segovia) will be open free of charge throughout the weekend. This exhibition, which includes the display of a camera that allows live observation of a griffon vulture nest, will be open free of charge throughout the weekend.
In addition, there will be guided tours of the park throughout the weekend.
