We’re joining the street arttrend… it will be for art in Ribera del Duero! Welcome to the Ruta de los Murales, another route within the Ribera del Duero Wine Route.
This form of street art was born in the 90s with the graffiti technique as a form of vindictive expression and has evolved to become professional and become a form of art, with countless examples all over the world: from the famous Brussels Comic Strip Route ( which includes 60 facades) to the valuable and vindictive works of the enigmatic Banksy. But our region is gaining momentum and is not lagging behind… We have the privilege, for example, of being able to take a leap in time and, in a matter of a few metres, go from admiring the Gothic façade of Santa María in Aranda de Duero (Burgos) to discovering street art treasures in the Santa Catalina neighbourhood. Or getting to know a village like Tubilla del Lago (Burgos) where there is an average of one mural for every six inhabitants… Now that’s concentrated art!
We present you with fifty or so works of street art that you can find throughout the length and breadth of our Ribera del Duero: from the most contemporary, airbrush in hand, to the most classic ones done on tiles. Because we have the best wine, but it’s also a wine that inspires? here we go!

Tubilla del Lago (Burgos)
This riverside village of barely 200 inhabitants can more than boast artistic capacity and initiative. In 2017, Tubilla del Lago inaugurated a Route of Artistic Murals with the aim of creating an artistic heritage that would give visibility to the village and its local artists, creating a series of works that, to date, has reached thirty. Works of different sizes and themes are painted on different façades and doors, works created by the inhabitants themselves or by artists linked to the village in one way or another. In addition, Tubilla del Lago holds the record for having the largest mural in Castilla y León to date (“Panorámica desde el llano” by the artist Jose Luis Abajo Fernández (Porrilló) and measuring 318 square metres).
You can see all the updates of the murals on their website: http://www.tubilladellago.com/

2. Visual allegory. Flower vase (David Abajo): A large colourful vase with ideas of self-improvement and with some tender verses that the artist dedicated to his wife.

The archaeological site of Pintia is located in Padilla de Duero, the largest Vaccean find in the country, discovered during the 20th century, when the arrival of machinery to the Castilian fields uncovered the archaeological treasures hidden under the wheat, barley or rye crops. The city of Pintia was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1993, and has a residential area, a necropolis and a quarter reserved for potters’ work. For the last thirty years, the Centro de Estudios Vacceos Federico Wattenberg CEVFW (University of Valladolid) has dedicated all its efforts to the protection of the site of Pintia, to the research of the material culture of the Vacceo people and to the dissemination of the discoveries made in the excavation campaigns it carries out. In its building, in the Plaza Mayor of Padilla de Duero, there is this mural by Manuel Sierra that alludes to the purpose of the building.
