One of the things we like most when we go on a trip is to take something from that place home with us. It’s a perfect way to share a little piece of the land we’ve visited with our loved ones. That’s why we want to help you a little when it comes to what to choose and where to choose it so that your shopping experience is perfect.

Within the Ribera del Duero Wine Route we have a multitude of products that will allow you to enjoy our gastronomy wherever you go.

Would you like to discover them?

Wines of Ribera del Duero

The Ribera del Duero Designation of Origin is renowned worldwide for the quality of its wines, and this is no coincidence. This wine region covers four provinces of Castilla y León: Burgos, Segovia, Soria and Valladolid and currently has almost 300 wineries and around 26,000 hectares.

Its star variety is the tempranillo grape, although you can also find other types such as the albillo mayor. With the grapes grown in the area, the wineries make red, red and white wines, and even cava.

What should I take with me?

As we have already mentioned, the wines of Ribera del Duero are world-renowned for their quality. You can’t leave without one of the bottles you discover on your trip along the Ribera del Duero Wine Route.

Where can I get it?

This part is very simple, much more than you can imagine. Many of the wineries offer direct sales if you visit them or if you make a visit. However, we know that you won’t be able to visit all the wineries you would like to during your trip, so one of the best ideas we can give you is to visit some of the wine cellars we have on the Route:

  • Enoteca Quesos, jamos y vinos: This establishment is located in Peñafiel, has a large car park and a great selection of wines. It also delivers to your home if you need it.
  • Enoteca El Zaguán: Also located in Peñafiel, next to the Plaza del Coso, this wine shop gives you the possibility to choose from 450 wine references.
  • Enoteca Anágora, wines and gifts: Again in Peñafiel, with an incredible selection of wines and other products.
  • Enoteca Agropal: Again in Peñafiel, this wine shop is located in an old silo that has been completely renovated.
  • Renedo Gourmet: We now move on to Aranda de Duero, where Charcutería Renedo Gourmet is located, a small family-run shop with a wide selection of wines.
  • El Ventorro: This hostel and restaurant has an interesting shop that can be a perfect excuse to stop for wine and something else.
  • Bodega Histórica Don Carlos: right in the centre of Aranda de Duero, you will find this incredible winery, which in addition to offering tours, has a wide variety of wines that you can take home with you.

Vinos

Cheese and dairy products

Another of the perfect products to take home as a souvenir of the Ribera del Duero Wine Route is cheese. There is nothing better than a good cured Churra sheep’s cheese.

What should I take with me?

A wedge of cheese or any of the dairy products we have in the area are a perfect gift that will serve to take the best of this land and take it home, or to make a gift to a loved one.

Where can I get it?

  • Any of the shops mentioned above have cheeses from the area that you can take with you.
  • Bodegas Raíz has the best cheese in the world, and it’s not just me, it’s the American journalist Michael Paterniti, who named it with this title in his book “The Telling Room”.
  • If you want to innovate, the best thing to try is the cream cheese with truffle from RF Trufas, in Canalejas de Peñafiel.

Cured meats and sausages

In this land we also have an incredible meat that provides us with good sausages and other meat products that you should try.

What should I take with me?

Chorizo, lomo, salchichón, ham, suckling lamb chops and, above all, black pudding. The variety is incredible. You can also find preserves and other products that you will fall in love with.

Barbacoa

Where do I get it?

  • La Fonda del Prado: located in Villalba de Duero, this family business stands out for its traditional cuisine and its incredible pickled meats, which you can take home and enjoy afterwards, no problem at all.
  • La Granja de Chico: specialising in Duroc pork, they offer a wide variety of sausages of all kinds.
  • Again, the enotecas we mentioned in the first point usually have black pudding and vacuum-packed meat products.

Honey and traditional sweets

It is clear that no fool can be bitter for a sweet. This means that taking some home can be the perfect gift for your friends and family.

What should I take?

Honey, traditional pastries, sweets and incredible cakes, if you come to the Route you’ll be able to take home a good dessert.

Where can I get it?

  • We repeat, in case you haven’t heard yet, that the shops and wine shops usually have a selection of local sweets that are an incredible idea to enjoy.
  • Pastelerías Tudanca: this well-known bakery is located in Aranda de Duero, and has some exquisite sweets that you can’t miss.
  • Miel Oro del Duero: A jar of honey is much more than a sweet, as it will accompany you for a long time. These beekeepers, as well as taking you on a tour of the beehives and giving you a taste of the honey in a tasting among holm oaks, have a very interesting variety of honey products that you are going to love.
  • Monastic sweets: In towns such as Caleruega or La Aguilera, there are monasteries that sell delicious sweets that you will love.

Local handicrafts

It’s not all about eating, you also have the option of taking some handicrafts home with you and enjoying them for longer.

What should I take with me?

The artisan offer in the area has a wide variety of products that you can take away with you. From ceramics to leather to art, it can be a perfect solution to get that little something you want to have with you.

Where can I get it?

  • A Cántaros Artesanía: In Peñaranda de Duero we come across this artistic and creative space, which organises a multitude of activities and, at the same time, has a shop where you can find a multitude of options.
  • Artencuero: This artisan workshop offers workshops, but also gives you the option to buy and order unique pieces made of leather.

Practical advice for your purchases

  • Plan your route: Organise your visits to the wineries and shops to make the most of your time.
  • Tastings: Some wineries and shops offer tastings that will allow you to choose the product you are interested in.
  • Transport: The wine shops and wineries will provide you with a way to transport your bottles when you buy them, but remember that, when transporting them, you should take into account issues such as temperature, time of exposure to the sun or any agent that may spoil them.
  • Shipping costs: Don’t forget that some wineries and shops offer national and international shipping services, check this option if you are buying in large quantities.
