The Ribera del Duero Wine Route has celebrated together with its partners the high level of tourist quality in its III Forum of Adherents. The event took place in the Monastery of Valbuena and the SICTED labels were awarded to 42 accommodations, wineries and restaurants that are members of the Route.
San Bernardo, (Valladolid), 28th of November 2024
The Monastery of Valbuena, located in the municipality of San Bernardo, hosted this morning the third edition of the Forum of Members of the Ribera del Duero Wine Route, which focused on wine tourism experiences and ended with the presentation of the SICTED badges to 42 establishments of the Route.
The Members’ Forum is an event open to all members with a dual purpose: to be a meeting point for them and also an educational event, since expert speakers on various subjects are invited to address different topics related to wine tourism activities.
This year’s guests were Roberto Puras, coordinator of events and projects at Barrio de la Estación in Haro, and Lucero Arana, a tourism consultant specialising in wine tourism.
The former spoke about the importance of involving the traveller in the wine tourism experience, making them part of the history of the winery and making the tourist “feel” it, leaving them with a memorable experience.
Lucero Arana explored how omnichannel can revolutionise wine tourism by connecting physical and digital channels to offer integrated, personalised and seamless experiences to travellers.
Tourism quality certification
At the end of the event, the SICTED Quality Distintives were awarded to the 42 members of the Ribera del Duero Wine Route that have participated in this process. It is the first time thatthe Route has offered this tourist quality certification free of charge, equivalent to the Q for Tourist Quality and endorsed by the General Secretariat of Tourism.
14 wineries, 16 different types of accommodation, 5 museums, 2 restaurants, 2 tourist information offices, a taxi company, a travel agency and a craftsman’s workshop have obtained the distinction. All of them have passed a training plan, technical assistance visits by approved assessors and evaluations to check that the establishment and its services meet the quality standards.
The wine tourism route has allocated a budget of nearly €40,000 from Next Generation-EU fundsto this initiative, which is part of the Tourism Sustainability Plan for Destinations (PSTD), with the aim of promoting competitiveness and committed and responsible tourism management and enhancing the value of its tourism products.
Precisely sustainability will be the line of work of the Ribera del Duero Wine Route, as Miguel Ángel Gayubo pointed out during the forum, predicting a long future for wine tourism, and even more so if it is sustainable: “we have been working for sustainable wine tourism for some time now and maintaining this will be the future, being more sustainable and professional; wine tourism is becoming more and more à la carte, there is more and more specialisation, although we must continue working on the quality to which we are committed, we want tourists to return“.
The deputy of Culture of Valladolid, Yolanda, stressed the importance of the necessary public collaboration in any field, “but especially in rural areas“, she said, highlighting the continued collaboration of the Diputación de Valladolid with wine tourism and the various wine routes in the province.
