Aranda de Duero, 14 June 2024

The report carried out by the Spanish Wine Routes Tourism Observatory once again places the Ribera del Duero Wine Route on the podium of the most visited wine routes in the country. With a total of 368,537 visitors, the territory remains in third position after Rioja Alta and Penedés.

With an upward trend, the region has accumulated since 2008, almost 3 million wine tourists, having increased in these years about 900%. Moreover, Ribera del Duero continues to be the Route with the highest number of services, with a total of 344 in 2023, 10% more than in the previous year.

Last year’s figures show that 67% of tourists visited wineries, compared to 33% who visited museums. In the case of the origin of the travellers, a large majority of nationals continue to be observed, with more than 90% of those who travel to the Route.

It is worth highlighting the importance of Ribera del Duero in the regional total, as it is the largest tourist attraction in the region. More than half of the wine tourists who visit Castilla y León do so to discover this Route.

In terms of the months with the highest number of visitors, La Ribera stands out from the general figures for the rest of the Routes, with August being the peak of the year, as opposed to September and October, the months when the grape harvest is concentrated. The month with the fewest tourists continues to be January.

More than 100 million euros passed on to the territory

The data of the new report carried out by Rutas del Vino de España show a remarkable increase in the total expenditure which has also been reflected in the Ribera del Duero Wine Route. The document indicates that in 2023, 8.3 million euros were spent in wineries and museums, with an average expenditure of 32.7 €.

These figures represent a small part of what tourists spend, since, according to the Tourist Demand report, also produced by ACEVIN, spending in Ribera del Duero would have an economic impact of wine tourism in the area of 165 million euros.

A very positive evolution

The increase in the number of visitors to the Ribera del Duero Wine Route is, without a doubt, a very positive aspect that reflects the hard work that both the technical staff and the partners and members that make up the Consortium continue to carry out. Over the last few years, Ribera has become one of the best rated Routes, and is also one of the most desired, and has remained among the three most visited in the last 10 years, despite the growth in the number of certified Routes in Spain, which now totals 37.

Miguel Ángel Gayubo, president of the Route, assures that “the figures for visits and economic impact are great news, but it is even better to know that the degree of tourist satisfaction continues to be one of the highest in the country“. For the organisation’s representative, the best result is to ensure that wine tourists continue to choose to return to Ribera del Duero to continue enjoying its wineries, museums and other establishments.
