On 15 June, Pintia Vaccea will launch a new season of Maridajes de Ruta, the wine tourism initiative that aims to revitalise the Ribera del Duero in unique places, highlighting the value of local products and creating synergies between different establishments belonging to the Wine Route and heritage sites.

This free activity is included in the European Days of Archaeology, promoted by the Spanish Cultural Heritage Institute (IPCE) and the Ministry of Culture and Sport (MCD). It will begin on Saturday 15 June at 10:00 a.m. and will include a guided tour of the collection of the Centro de Estudios Vacceos Federico Wattenberg and the Yacimiento de las Ruedas in Padilla de Duero. Afterwards, there will be a tasting of Ribera del Duero wine in ceramic glasses made by Espacio Artístico A Cántaros, paired with honey from Apiturismo Oro del Duero and Páramo de Guzmán cheese.

On the other hand, the youngest visitors will also be able to enjoy a workshop on excised Vaccean pottery, which will allow them to learn more about this ancient civilisation and turn them into archaeologists for a day.

Places are limited and registration to participate can be done through the link that can be found on the Route’s website www.riberate.com.

It is important to highlight that the Pintia Vaccea Archaeological Site is one of the most significant tourist resources of the Ribera del Duero Wine Route. This site has been the key to discovering that the wine-making tradition in the area dates back more than two thousand years, thanks to the studies carried out by the University of Valladolid, led by archaeologist Carlos Sanz. Guided tours are currently available throughout the year, giving visitors the chance to see the pieces that have been extracted and learn about the results of the excavations on the site.

Sara García, Manager of the Ribera del Duero Wine Route, says that “over the coming months, new activities are planned as part of Maridajes en Ruta in different parts of the region, which will serve to showcase the wine tourism potential of the members of the Ribera del Duero Wine Route”.
